-
- - Microsoft Windows 3.1 driver installation.
-
- The OL410E Windows driver files include an installation utility.
- This program, "INSTALL.EXE" will expand the OL410E driver files
- and copy them to your hard drive.
-
- The OL410E Windows driver requires 226K bytes of disk space.
-
- Before you begin this procedure:
- a) Know the hard drive and directory location of your Windows files.
- or example: C:\WINDOWS
-
- PROCEDURE:
- 1. From the DOS prompt, run the OKIDATA program INSTALL.EXE.
- The program INSTALL.EXE was created when you expanded
- the OKILINK driver file.
-
- 2. The INSTALL program will initialize and display additional
- information. Read the messages and press the Enter key to continue.
-
- 3. If necessary, type the name of the directory that contains your
- Windows files. The program INSTALL will verify your selection.
- If a WIN.COM file is not found you may be asked to enter a
- different location.
-
- 4. The Windows driver files will be uncompressed and copied to your
- hard drive. A message will indicate that the installation is
- complete. Make a note of the location where the files were copied.
-
- 5. After the files are uncompressed you will be given two options:
-
- a) Press [Enter] to allow the program to continue and
- finish the installation. The program INSTALL will
- update your WIN.INI file with new driver information
- and assign the driver to the default port, LPT1.
- The original WIN.INI file will be saved as WIN1.OKI.
- The program will return to the main menu where
- you may exit.
- - or -
- b) Exit the program by pressing [Esc] and complete the driver
- installation from within Windows. Start Windows and use
- the CONTROL PANEL and PRINTERS to Add an Unlisted printer.
- The new driver files will be located in the Windows
- sub-directory "\SYSTEM". (For example, C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM).
-
-
- The Microsoft Windows User's Guide contains additional information on
- using the Control Panel and Installing/Configuring printers.
-
-
- USING THE OL410E "B" AND "F" FONTS
-
- Your OL410E printer contains a number of fixed pitch fonts.
- Some of these fonts are grouped as "B" and "F" cartridge fonts.
-
- Although the B and F fonts are built into your OL410E, the term cartridge
- is used because these two groups were originally provided on separate
- font cartridges known as the B cartridge and the F cartridge.
-
- Note: Because the B and F internal font cartridges are similar in
- content, only one internal cartridge may be active.
-
- ACTIVATING THE "B" OR "F" FONTS
- Before using the B or F fonts they must be made active within your
- OL410E printer.
- 1. With the printer power on and display indicating ON-LINE,
- press the [ON-LINE] button once to place the printer OFF-LINE.
- 2. Press the [MENU] button until the display reads HP CARTRIDGE.
- 3. Press the [+] button to toggle through the following options:
- "B" --- B cartridge active.
- "F" --- F cartridge active.
- "NONE" --- neither B nor F active.
- 4. When the desired option is displayed, press the [ENTER] button.
- An asterisk ( * ) will appear indicating the selection will be active.
-
- 5. Press the [ON-LINE] button. The selected fonts are now active within
- your printer. These fonts can now be used by software applications that
- support the "B" and "F" font cartridges.
-
- Using B and F with the OL410E Windows Driver
- When selecting an Internal Cartridge from the CARTRIDGES list in the
- Printer Setup, there are several items which an operator must remember.
-
- 1. Whenever selecting an internal cartridge from the Cartridges List
- in the Windows OL410E Printer Driver, the corresponding internal
- cartridge must be selected the OL410E front panel. Failure to do
- this will result in text being printed in an incorrect font style.
-
- 2. Remember that only one of the OL410E internal B or F cartridges
- can be active at a single time. Use caution when selecting the
- internal cartridges from the printer setup so that only one is
- selected at a time.
-
- TO PRINT A SAMPLE OF PRINTER FONTS:
- 1. With the printer power on, press the [ON-LINE] button once to place the
- printer OFF-LINE.
-
- 2. Press the PRINT FONTS button. The printer's display will indicate:
- "PRINT FONTS." The printer will generate a font sample within 20 seconds.
-
- As indicated by the printed font sample, the B and F groups are made
- up of Swiss and Dutch fonts. The Okidata font names "Swiss" and
- "Dutch" are equivalent to the fonts "Helvetica" and "Times Roman"
- found on the original B and F cartridges.
