  1.  OKIDATA OL410E Software Support
  2.  
  3.  -  Microsoft Windows 3.1 driver installation.
  4.  
  5.  The OL410E Windows driver files include an installation utility.
  6.  This program, "INSTALL.EXE" will expand the OL410E driver files
  7.  and copy them to your hard drive.
  8.  
  9.  The OL410E Windows driver requires 226K bytes of disk space.
  10.  
  11.  Before you begin this procedure:
  12.      a) Know the hard drive and directory location of your Windows files.
  13.         or example:  C:\WINDOWS
  14.                 
  15.  PROCEDURE:
  16.   1. From the DOS prompt, run the OKIDATA program INSTALL.EXE.
  17.      The program INSTALL.EXE was created when you expanded
  18.      the OKILINK driver file.
  19.  
  20.   2. The INSTALL program will initialize and display additional
  21.      information.  Read the messages and press the Enter key to continue.
  22.  
  23.   3. If necessary, type the name of the directory that contains your
  24.      Windows files.  The program INSTALL will verify your selection.
  25.      If a WIN.COM file is not found you may be asked to enter a
  26.      different location.
  27.  
  28.   4. The Windows driver files will be uncompressed and copied to your
  29.      hard drive.  A message will indicate that the installation is
  30.      complete.  Make a note of the location where the files were copied.
  31.  
  32.   5. After the files are uncompressed you will be given two options:
  33.  
  34.       a)  Press [Enter] to allow the program to continue and
  35.           finish the installation.  The program INSTALL will
  36.           update your WIN.INI file with new driver information
  37.           and assign the driver to the default port, LPT1.
  38.           The original WIN.INI file will be saved as WIN1.OKI.
  39.           The program will return to the main menu where
  40.           you may exit.
  41.                               - or -
  42.       b)  Exit the program by pressing [Esc] and complete the driver
  43.           installation from within Windows.  Start Windows and use
  44.           the CONTROL PANEL and PRINTERS to Add an Unlisted printer.
  45.           The new driver files will be located in the Windows
  46.           sub-directory "\SYSTEM". (For example, C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM).

  50.    using the Control Panel and Installing/Configuring printers.

  53.  USING THE OL410E "B" AND "F" FONTS
  54.  
  55.  Your OL410E printer contains a number of fixed pitch fonts.
  56.  Some of these fonts are grouped as "B" and "F" cartridge fonts.
  57.  
  58.  Although the B and F fonts are built into your OL410E, the term cartridge
  59.  is used because these two groups were originally provided on separate
  60.  font cartridges known as the B cartridge and the F cartridge.
  61.  
  62.  Note: Because the B and F internal font cartridges are similar in
  63.  content, only one internal cartridge may be active.
  64.  
  65.  ACTIVATING THE "B" OR "F" FONTS
  66.  Before using the B or F fonts they must be made active within your
  67.  OL410E printer.
  68.  1.  With the printer power on and display indicating ON-LINE,
  69.      press the [ON-LINE] button once to place the printer OFF-LINE.
  70.  2.  Press the [MENU] button until the display reads HP CARTRIDGE.
  71.  3.  Press the [+] button to toggle through the following options:
  72.                 "B"     --- B cartridge active.
  73.                 "F"     --- F cartridge active.
  74.                "NONE"   --- neither B nor F active.
  75.  4. When the desired option is displayed, press the [ENTER] button.
  76.     An asterisk ( * ) will appear indicating the selection will be active.
  77.  
  78.  5. Press the [ON-LINE] button.  The selected fonts are now active within
  79.     your printer.   These fonts can now be used by software applications that
  80.     support the "B" and "F" font cartridges.
  81.      
  82.  Using B and F with the OL410E Windows Driver
  83.  When selecting an Internal Cartridge from the CARTRIDGES list in the
  84.  Printer Setup,  there are several items which an operator must remember.
  85.  
  86.         1.  Whenever selecting an internal cartridge from the Cartridges List
  87.             in the Windows OL410E Printer Driver,  the corresponding internal
  88.             cartridge must be selected the OL410E front panel.  Failure to do
  89.             this will result in text being printed in an incorrect font style.
  90.  
  91.         2.  Remember that only one of the OL410E  internal B or F cartridges
  92.             can be active at a single time.  Use caution when selecting the
  93.             internal cartridges from the printer setup so that only one is
  94.             selected at a time.

  96.  TO PRINT A SAMPLE OF PRINTER FONTS:
  97.  1.  With the printer power on, press the [ON-LINE] button once to place the                            
  98.      printer OFF-LINE.
  99.  
  100.  2.  Press the PRINT FONTS button.  The printer's display will indicate:
  101.      "PRINT FONTS." The printer will generate a font sample within 20 seconds.
  102.  
  103.   As indicated by the printed font sample, the B and F groups are made
  104.   up of Swiss and Dutch fonts.  The Okidata font names "Swiss" and
  105.   "Dutch" are equivalent to the fonts "Helvetica" and "Times Roman"
  106.   found on the original B and F cartridges.
  107.  
  108.
